Photo Weston is a photography festival which aims to cultivate collaborations between internationally recognised photographers and the diverse communities here in Weston-super-Mare.  For our inaugural edition in 2024 we commissioned the photographer Michal Iwanowski to work with a group of participants made up of service users from Race Equality North Somerset and Refugees Welcome North Somerset.  Michal worked with participants to support the development of personal stories which were published as a group exhibition in Grove Park -this work was exhibited alongside Michal's body of work 'Go Home Polish'

In addition to this, we delivered a commission working with a diverse group of participants from Weston to explore The Severn Estuary photographically. Born from the success of 'foto/walks' this project involved walking for wellbeing whilst investigating our relationship with the beautiful landscape around the estuary.  The outcomes for this exhibition were curated and selected by the British landscape photographer Jem Southam.

Finally, in partnership with Bristol Photo Festival, Photo Weston brought Nigel Poor's 'San Quentin Project' to the UK for the first time to be shown alongside The Prison Mobile Library, a collaboration between IC Visual Lab and The Prison Education Network.

Look out for a second edition in 2025
